The 12th variant of the Porsche 911 now features a hybrid system on the upper trim levels, known as T-Hybrid. All variants have been made tauter thanks to a heavily revised transmission and new engine components for the 3.0L twin-turbo flat six sitting in the rear.
All-New hybrid technology is available on the GTS trim level. It features an electric motor mounted within the turbocharger of the new 3.6L flat six engine, along with a 400-volt traction battery mounted just behind the front storage area.
The eight-speed PDK’s gear ratios have been reworked and it now has a permanently-excited synchronous electric motor to provide higher torque. This virtually eliminates turbo lag, allowing for maximized performance.
The non-hybrid 3.0L twin-turbo flat six of the standard 911 Carrera has been enhanced with the intercooler from 911 Turbo and the turbochargers from the previous 911 GTS, pushing the power up 9 horsepower to 388, and torque up to 331 lb-ft.
While retaining the iconic proportions and styling cues of previous 911 models, Porsche has made sure the 992.2 is noticeably sharper from front to rear.
Porsche has removed the small horizontal light bars from the previous generation, allowing for enlarged front bumper air intakes. On the new GTS trim, 5 active flaps allow for increased air flow through and around the vehicle.
Porsche has given this new 911 a distinctive light signature; a revised version of the four-point design. Optional HD Matrix LED headlights are available, featuring 64,000 camera-controlled pixels reacting to every possible situation in San Jose.
A cleaned up vent sitting below the rear window, a sculpted light strip, and a much sleeker bumper, make for a sharp tail on this latest 911.
The interior of the new 911 has undergone a hefty modernization. It now features a fully digital instrument cluster, a starter button instead of a toggle switch, and, for the first time on the 911, no rear seats as standard.
The classic analog gauge cluster has been replaced by a curved digital display. The five-gauge format is carried over onto the new display, as well as a track-focused display layout.
The long-standing rotary starter switch has been replaced by a simple button. It remains on the left side of the steering wheel, as a nod to Porsche motorsport heritage.
The traditional 2+2 seating layout has been ditched due to weight-saving measures. Buyers in Fremont can opt for the foldable rear seats as a no-cost option.
