Happy International’s Women’s Day!
No hard work goes unnoticed! International Women’s Day (March 8th) is a day celebrated worldwide to honor empowering, hardworking, determined women who have made a difference. Here at Porsche Fremont, we appreciate the efforts of all the amazing women who have contributed to our success. With nearly 8 years of being a member of the Fletcher Jones family, Barbara George’s contribution as Controller is much appreciated and has made a major positive impact on our business. Throughout the growth of her career, George always worked hard and never took “no” as an answer. Being aware that the automotive industry was male dominated; she completed intensive training with the National Automotive Dealer Association. She was also the 15th person to become a Certified Automotive Accountant.
She attended university and studied accounting and business management which aligns closely to her many responsibilities. Here, she establishes and maintains internal control of our financial department and ensures policies and procedures are followed. Women empowerment for George means having a voice and not being shy and believes that honesty, integrity and humility are important values and essentials for all women. George advices young girls who want to pursue male dominated careers to do anything they want and that nothing should be an issue to achieve their goals. In the early stages of her career, she was a greeter and always observed the Controller, who was a male at a dealership she previously worked at. She admired all the plaques and awards he had displayed in his office wall which influenced her to become a Controller, as well. As the years passed by, she reached her achievement of receiving many awards and revisited that dealership to show her accomplishments to him.
Don’t forget to acknowledge any women on this special day who you believe make positive impacts. Happy International Women’s Day!
