March Service Tip of the Month

March 9th, 2016 by

Battery3The battery on your Porsche provides all the charge that starts your engine and gets those horses running! The battery is a very essential component that stores energy for the fuel and ignition systems along with all electrical components. Here, at Porsche Fremont our master technicians preserve the condition and value of your vehicle with routine maintenance. Depending on specific models, there are procedures that should be done when jump starting your vehicle or charging your battery. For a few years now, some Porsche vehicles have upgraded to new battery and an electrical system monitor to help keep the battery in a better state of charge.

With this new upgrade, there are safety precautions that you should be aware of that can cause a risk to electrical components of your vehicle. On models such as the Macan, Cayenne and Panamera both negative and positive posts are indicated on the battery. These points have been fitted with warning labels and arrows indicating where power & ground should be connected. To avoid any malfunctions, never charge the battery or jump start your vehicle the traditional way of attaching your power cables to the actual battery posts. However, on sports models such as the 911, Boxster and Cayman, the positive post on the battery can be charged or jump started the traditional way. On Porsche’s 981 and 991, you must use the positive post on the battery, but not the negative. The battery on sports models is easily accessible, whereas on others it is more difficult, therefore Porsche provides an easier access via this remote post.
Has the condition of your battery been checked? It is recommended that battery condition checks should be conducted at least once a year. Luckily, this month only we are offering a complimentary battery condition check special. If you are in need of a battery replacement, Porsche Fremont is also offering 15% off parts and labor.
