It’s National Parks and Recreations Month!

July is National Parks and Recreation Month, therefore it’s time to celebrate by getting your outdoor gear on and visiting a new park! Northern California is filled with stunning parks with several outdoor recreational opportunities. Take a look at our list of national parks and recreational areas that you can visit throughout Northern California in honor of this month.

Yosemite National Park

The famous Yosemite National Park is your go-to destination for outdoor activities. Yosemite is best known for its waterfalls, but also features deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, and gorgeous wilderness areas.

Golden Gate National Recreation Area

Filled with history from the Native American culture, Spanish Empire frontier, the Gold Rush, and the evolution of the coastal growth of San Francisco, the Golden Gate is certainly one of the most popular parks in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Stanislaus National Forest

Get lost in the beauty of nature at Stanislaus National Forest located in Sonora, CA.  This stunning park is filled with several outdoor recreational activities to do such as camping and hiking, or river rafting and fishing in over 800 miles of rivers and streams.  This popular destination is a mere three hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks

As you admire the beauty of the rugged hills, deep canyons, and the world’s largest trees, you will be convinced that Sequoia & Kings Canyon is certainly one of the most gorgeous parks in California. It is a picture-perfect spot for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.

Portola Redwoods State Park

Admire the sound of nature at Portola Redwoods State Park where tranquility and relaxation are at its finest. The Redwood Forest is located near Silicon Valley and South Bay. Take a hike in an 18-mile trail alongside creeks, ferns, and stunning redwood trees.  This site has 55 family campgrounds, 4 group campsites, and trail camps for backpackers. Don’t forget to visit the waterfall on Fall Creek and Pescador creek for some great photo opportunities.

Lake Tahoe

Beautiful Lake Tahoe is located where California and Nevada meet.  Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine Lake in North America, sitting well above a 5K foot elevation. Its spectacular scenery includes panoramic views of the Sierra Mountains. The area offers year-round outdoor activities from water, snow, to land sports, plus a lively nightlife.
