Powerful Yet Fuel Efficient
Every 2016 Porsche Boxster comes with a rear-wheel drive system and a standard six-speed manual transmission. A PDK seven-speed automated manual transmission is available as an option on every Boxster other than the Spyder.
Every Boxster, except for the Spyder, also comes with a standard auto stop-start system that helps drivers save on fuel when the car is not in use. We’ve broken down each trim into its specifics for you.
Base and Black Edition – Both the base Boxster and Black Edition trims are equipped with a 2.7L horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine that can produce 265 hp and 207 Ib-ft of torque. Fuel economy ratings for these models are 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. For more impressive efficiency, drivers can opt for the PDK seven-speed transmission and enjoy 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.
S – The S trim upgrades to a 3.4L six-cylinder engine that is capable of 315 hp and 266 Ib-ft of torque. Gas mileage for the S remains respectable with 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway with the six-speed transmission and 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway with the PDK.
GTS – Those who select the Boxster GTS will find an upgraded version of the 3.4L six-cylinder engine that is good for 330 hp and 273 Ib-ft of torque. The GTA gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway with the standard six-speed transmission and 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway when paired with the PDK.
Spyder – The Spyder is powered by a unique 3.8L six-cylinder engine that can generate an astounding 375 hp and 309 Ib-ft of torque when coupled with the six-speed manual transmission. Although fuel economy on the Spyder takes a hit, it is still admirable at 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
